| Background Information | ||
| Opening for Business on September 21st, 1971 in the Old Church (now The Community Centre) total shares received amounted to £31. | ||
| Our nomadic travels continued in the early year's from the Church to the boys school (now a bright new Garda Station) and "graduating" to the Vocational School (now the Daycare Centre), still working out of suitcases. | ||
| Eventually, Fr. William Kinsella who had been the prime mover in forming the Credit Union suggested we renovate the C.Y.M.S. Hall which was in a derelict condition but the 4 walls were there - since 1830 | ||
| With the expert help available locally the premises was re-built and officially opened on 3rd May 1971. Originally this premises together with its twin opposite were Parochial Schools built in 1826 and 1830. | ||
Founding member Mr. Bill Kiernan. |
Reference to the building is made in Maura Laverty's "Never no more", her poignant story of life in the Rathangan of the 1920's. We purchased both buildings in November 1993 and installed computers in 1994. Growth continued and we re-built and extended the second premises, up-dated our computer system and opened on 27th August 1997. The old CYMS hall is now a Medical Centre. Looking into the crystal ball we see another move in the near future. |
